History of SEIKO

Seiko was founded in 1881. Since ‘Rolex’ was established in 1905, its long history is comparable to that of a famous Swiss family. After its establishment, the company quickly improved its technical capabilities and grew to account for 60% of domestic watch production by 1911. After World War II, he tried his hand at Switzerland, the home of watchmaking. In the field of mechanical wristwatches, we are increasing our presence not only in Japan, but also around the world, with our inexpensive ‘Seiko Five’ becoming a big hit around the world and achieving good results in prestigious watch competitions.

It was Seiko that launched the world’s first quartz wristwatch and created the trend toward electronic watches. It is not showy, but the advanced technology and sincere attitude of craftsmanship are recognized even in Switzerland, a watch superpower, and there are many “Seiko believers” around the world. Since then, he has made many innovative achievements in the wristwatch industry, including the launch of the ‘astron’ the world’s first GPS solar watch, and the development of the “spring drive” which is driven by a spring and combines quartz precision.

The competition itself has been canceled, although it has gradually increased its ranking and surpassed the previous year’s first place in 1968. It is said that this was because the Swiss watch industry was afraid of Japan’s advancement. It was for this reason that he entered the Geneva Astronomical Observatory Competition, ranking first in mechanical watches and first in the world in technology. In 1998, the company established its own “new GS standard” which is stricter than the Swiss chronometer standard. Since then, ‘Grand Seiko’ has been making moves in conformance with this strict standard.
